How to put Dvds on your iPhone/iPod Touch

Ok, if you are like me, you probably don’t want to buy a movie on iTunes that you already own to put it on your iPod. Now, wouldn’t it be great if you could just put your Dvds on your iPod?

Then you have come to the right place!  I did these steps on Windows Xp, although almost any windows system will work.

View Instructions by pressing “Read the rest of this Entry”

Movies:

To convert your Movies, we will use Handbreak. It is a dvd ripper for Windows.  You will also need DVD43 to remove the copy protection.

Download and Install:

Now, make sure DVD43 is running. If it is running you should see a smiley face in the bottom right.  If it is not running double click on DVD43 on your desktop (the one with a smiley).

Now you are setup, these next instructions are what you will do for every DVD.  Put the DVD in your computer, and wait until the Smiley in your taskbar changes from Devil to Green Happy (this tells you your dvd has been decripted)

Open up Handbreak, and at the top where it says Source, click browse and go to My Computer -> (Your Dvd) -> VIDEO_TS.

Handbreak will tell you to wait a second.  Then, when it is done, click on the iPhone / iPod Touch preset on the right.  You can go to the Video tab on the bottom and change Average Bitrate to about 350-400 to make the file size smaller.

Almost done, so go to the Title drop down under the Source textbox, and choose the longest one, so you get the movie and not one of the special feature videos.

Finally! Here is the last step. Press the “Start” Button above the Source textbox.  Go and see a movie at the theaters, because making the video compatable with your iPod Touch/iPhone will take about an hour and a half, depending on your computer and the length of your dvd.

On a later post i will demonstrate how to put Tv Shows on a iPod Touch/iPhone. (Man, someone needs to make a universial name for those two, like iTone or iPhouch. Hey, i like iPhouch)
